Offered for auction is a beautiful embroidered/needlepoint scene of Osaka Castle done in the famous Chinese âeoeForbidden Stitchâe or âeoePeking Stitchâe. Osaka Castle is a famous historical landmark in Japan. Legend has it, the stitch was forbidden in China, due to the strain on the artists eyes, causing blindness. It is also believed that the stitch originated in the Forbidden City in China.
Itâe(tm)s hard to convey the mastery of the needle work on this exquisite piece of art. We have provided many close-ups of both the front and the back so you can see the intricacy of the knots. It is nothing short of breathtaking in person. The luster of the silk threads can be seen best in the photo of the back with the knots close up. The scene is surrounded with a period wooden frame with faux grain finish which suits the subject nicely. T is some wear on the frame edges, with a nick and t The back of the picture has a thin 1/8âe backing of Luan which appears to have been applied later. We believe the frame is original. T is glass over the needle work which protects it and keeps it free of dust. The condition of the embroidered panel is excellent with only some very slight, age related, darkening of the cloth and a light reddish spot to the left of the castle peak, see photos. The stitches are all perfect and tight and the colors of the silk threads are vibrant with no signs of fading. The dimensions of the picture framed are: 27 1/2âe T x 19âe W. This is quite large for a needlepoint scene done with this type of stitch. An outstanding example of the lost art of the Forbidden Stitch and a superb decorative accent! Please see the other artwork we have running in our other auctions. Thanks for looking! IMPORTANT please read below: Shipping insurance is required and it is NOT included in USPS Priority as indicated in the calculator area below. For some reason Ebay's software keeps putting that in the listing when I have checked "Required". I give up trying to fix it! Please disregard if not mentioned belowâe¦ We prefer PayPal but we also accept money orders and cashierâe(tm)s checks (must clear prior to shipment). Payment must be received within 7 days of auctionâe(tm)s close. No ZERO or NEGATIVE bidders without contact with seller PRIOR to bidding. Unfortunate past experience has warranted that this become necessary. We WELCOME new bidders and we are honored to be a "first purchase". We just need to confirm who we are bidding with before a bid gets placed. It's a LONG story... We do NOT charge a handling or packing material fee on our auctions. Shipping is based on box size, weight and destination. We take great care in packaging items for shipment and use bubble-wrap and foam peanuts. Shipping will be by UPS or Fedex UNLESS HIGH BIDDER STATES OTHERWISE. Other methods are offered. Insurance is REQUIRED on all items. We do OUR VERY BEST to package for a safe delivery. We use bubble-wrap, foam peanuts and at times, double boxing. Despite these efforts, on rare occasions, items may arrive damaged.
