This is an EMPTY vintage brass fire extinguisher that was made for the Ford Motor Company. The patent dates date this to the early 1940's. This was an option a new car buyer had a choice to select when ordering that new Ford. The extinguisher is about 13" long and 3" in diameter. It is made of brass with the exception of the top handle which is made of pot metal and painted. The brass label reads "FOMOCO FIRE EXTINGUSIHER". It also gives warnings on exposure to smoke and to refill after use with FOMOCO fluid only. The lower part of the label it reads Ford Motor Company Dearborn - Michigan. This was a carbon tetrachloride extinguisher. No matter who's brand of extinguisher you had, the instructions always said to refill with THEIR fluid. The patent dates range from 2256902 to 2340471. The extinguisher has been polished and lacquered and displays very well. The mounting bracket has been painted red and has red felt on the pieces that come into contact with the brass. In the pictures it shows a dark line running through the front, that's a reflection from someplace, t is no dark line on the extinguisher. I have seen these at car shows on display in the trucks old Fords and even mounted on the fire wall. Winning bid pays shipping and insurance of $10.00 US. Payment is due 10 days from auction end.
