No Reserve!Vintage Japanese SHELL ART ON SILK Artist Signed This pair of unique Japanese shell art scenes on silk are wonderful. They each measure 18¾" x 12¾" to the outside of the frames. The composition is created from a variety of tiny shells; sea urchin spikes; barnacles; and tiny pieces of shells; which have been individually placed on a silk background ....piece by piece. T is only a little bit of shell loss on a couple of strands of vine. They had been wrapped in saran wrap for many years before I found them... which is why they are still in such good condition. T are a few areas of yellowing on the silk, but I think that it may be from the glue that was used to create the art. If you look carefully at the fabric you can see that t is an additional backing under the silk. I suspect that t was a mat that framed the composition closer to the finished edges of the art. It looks great as it is....but if it were re-matted to the edges of the underlayment... the majority of the yellow spots would be covered. The pine frames look Art Deco. They are two piece frames....the inside piece is actually a beveled edge wood mat that fits inside the narrow outer frame. Each piece is signed but I do not read Japanese. PLEASE RREVIEW ALL THE PHOTOGRAPHS CAREFULLY. T IS MORE DETAILED INFORMATION BELOW THE PICTRURES. Veiw of one scene. read more
