I am lucky enough to have approximately 108 pieces of this highly collectible "Eclipse" earthenware dinnerware by Franciscan in the "Oasis" pattern. I am selling this collection by the piece on a Buy-It-Now basis. There are 28 separate auctions, each auction is a unique item and I have indicated total amount of pieces available of each unique item. Of course, shipping will be combined if you buy more than one piece. The last two pictures above show the variety of the pieces available. All pieces are in excellent vintage condition: great gloss, minimal if any utensil marks, perhaps a mark inside from a stirring instrument, does not detract. Any irregularity will be noted. I have removed any chipped or hairlined pieces from the auction. IMPORTANT: If you purchase more than one piece, please wait to be invoiced before paying. Some history about this dinnerware, courtesy of the Internet: FRANCISCAN EARTHENWARE COLLECTION In 1954, Franciscan China introduced a new shape called Eclipse, designed by George James. A design goal was to have a shape that was neither round nor square, and Eclipse achieves this through a clever combination of parabolic lines and optical illusions. The plates are actually almost circular, but the thickness of the edge changes around the diameter to create an elliptical appearance. Eclipse was manufactured into the 60's at the factory in Atwater, California. The plant was bought by Wedgewood in 1979 and closed in 1984. Franciscan made a total of 468 different patterns in its 50 year history. Eclipse was Franciscan's most modernistic dishware pattern. This page also has a little information about some of the other modern shapes. The only two surviving Franciscan patterns, Desert Rose and Apple, are now being made by the Johnson Brothers in England. Oasis Decal designed by S. Stanton In 1955 Oasis was added. This pattern was perhaps inspired by Piet Mondrian. It has a random gridwork of lines and lightly colored squares, and a few asterisk-shapes. It is the second most popular pattern of this group, and generally sells for almost as much as Starburst. BIDDERS / BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: Ebay no longer allows charging for shipping insurance.
