Vintage French Line Travel Poster, Adolph Treidler printed in lower corners "268-B February 15, 1934" and "Printed in U.S.A.." Built in 1932, the Champlain was one of the finest Deco cabin class liners of the time, the poster bears the title "The Gentle Art of Civilized Living" the scene depicted by Treidler reflects the suave styling of the ship's cocktail bar and passengers, unfortunately, the Champlain did not enjoy a prolonged run, following the outbreak of WWII, she was pressed into service, carrying refugees from Europe to North America, in 1940 she struck a mine in the River Humber and sunk. Adolph Treidler enjoyed a productive career as both a fine and commercial artist. He began his artistic studies at San Francisco Institute of Art and later studied under Robert Henri in New York City. Although primarily remembered for his travel posters touting the French Line and Bermuda, Treidler also worked on advertising campaigns for the two World Wars, as well as illustrations for Scribner's and the Saturday Evening Post., matted and framed under glass. - Two areas of loss to edges, some foxing - SS 23"h x 16"w, DOA 31"h x 23.75"w
