And Again Thank you --et MERCI! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Beautiful French Sheet in Fine Linen with Exceptional 'Exotic' Embroidery~ This is a truly remarkable--and quite sophisticated-- antique French linen sheet which was made and found in France. This sheet is woven of a very fine quality linen which is called "fil" in French. The color is a pristine white. This sheet is truly exceptional for the quality of it's lavish and rather exotic embroidery . As well t is an ornate monogram which make this sheet rich and elegant. The upper edge and the returns ('retours in French') on both sides of the sheet are finely embroidered with a 'paisley' motif, swags of embroidered dots, along with remarkably intricate drawn thread work. The monogram on this beautiful sheet is highly stylized with intricate embroidery, French knots and drawn thread work. It reads A C. This beautiful sheet measures a generous 93 inches by 127 inches, and t is no center seam. The returns measure 37 inches and are another indication of the quality of this sheet. Returns were time consuming and costly as they nearly doubled the amount of embroidery work. This sheet is in Excellent vintage condition,( no stains or other signs of wear),except for a repair (see last photo) which has been made with great care at the bottom edge and another tiny one near the larger one. These would both be tucked in when the sheet is in use and tfore not visible. These sorts of repairs are part of the history of this Vintage item and to my mind do not diminish the beauty of this exceptional sheet. The rest of the sheet is in entirely pristine condition. These sheets were generally made for the trousseau of a French bride, in the first half of the 20th cent., by her mother, grandmother or in some cases by convent nuns. The extraordinary fineness of this embroidery suggests the latter. In any case this is the work of a highly skilled and experienced embroiderer. This truly outstanding French vintage linen sheet would be a magnificent addition to your bedroom. As with all the items we sell, this sheet will be delivered to you freshly laundered and ironed.
