Item Details: Figural French lamps based on characters from the 19th century French novel, ‘Sans Famille’ by Hector Malot (1878). Classic male and female forms with lovely detail and antiqued gilt finish. Circa 1950s. Both have a cast plaque with French text relating to the novel. (Image #6). ‘Sans Famille’ on the male lamp translates to ‘Without Family’. ‘La Grace De Dieu’ on the woman translates to ‘The Grace of God’.The novel is considered one of the great classics of 19th century France. About the journey of an orphaned boy, the book was later printed under the English title ‘The Nobody’s Boy’. DIMENSIONS: About 20” height to the top of their heads, 36.25” height to finials (one lamp slightly shorter), and 6.75” base diameters. Cords: About 88” length each. WEIGHT: Male lamp: About 12 lbs, 11 oz. Female lamp: About 8 lbs, 10 oz. DETAILS: Has an antiqued, aged appearance including wear to the gilt that is deliberate by design. Gilt color is an aged, antiqued gold though may appear a brighter shade in some images as a natural reaction to camera lighting. read more
