Big Vintage Liquid-Filled Geissler Tube This very nice vintage German tube is in excellent working condition and the terminal caps are secure. The tube is about 8 inches long, and is filled with a straw-colored fluorescent liquid.
The liquid fluoresces blue-white under ultraviolet light, see the photo below. I suspect it might also fluoresce with violet and near-UV LEDs. The "powered up" photo shows the shape of the internal discharge path tube. A high voltage supply can be connected to attached old wires (that's what I did for the photos). The tube is shown operating from an old Welch 1.5-inch solid-state spark coil. It could also be operated from other high-voltage low-current sources such as a Model T spark coil, induction coil, electrostatic machine or high-frequency "hand-held Tesla coil" (used for leak detection, neon testing, violet ray machines). A copy of this 1899 Rare German Scientific Instrument Catalog Reprint will be included free. It includes Crookes and Roentgen tubes and Geissler tubes and rotators, plus lots of other nice old instruments. Click to see the catalog.
