Up for your consideration is this unique and hard to find, vintage lidded beer stein. This is a German quarter liter beer stein with a pewter lid. The stein is 5 inches tall and 6 3/4 inches with the lid. The base is 3 inches in diameter. The stein was made most likely in the early 1950's based on the the etched marks on the stein bottom and the "Made in Germany" backstamp. The stein is decorated in two panels with vines and berries. The center panel depicts a tavern scene of people sitting at a table drinking. Each panel is hand painted in cobalt blue. The stein is inscribed with the words: "Erst prob's Dann Lob's", which means "first try, then praise". The stein handle has a pattern on the outside grip. The lid is intricately detailed with an embossed design. The bottom of the stein has the Marzi and Remy mark etched in the bottom along with a shield pattern and 2886 and what looks like a 12. This stein is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, stains, or dings. This would make a great gift for someone who collects beer steins, barware or German memorabilia.
