This is a fabulous piece....I thought it was real but my jeweler says no, but a fine old costume piece. It is a synthetic garnet, very deep red, surrounded by gold with a beautiful design engraved on it. The necklace part is flat and flexable, laying on the neck perfectly. It is 16 " long, and it unsnaps at the top of the medallion in the front. The charm medallion part is about 3/4 " tall and about 5/8ths inch wide. The garnet is about 3/8" tall and slightly over 1/4 " wide. The chains hanging down from the medallion are about 7/8" long each. I can't complement this piece too much, it is so vintage and unusual. Selling for a friend and the history of the piece is scare...just knew it came from her grandmother. Age? early 1900's? The discs/beads are hollow so it is a light weight piece. No markings .
