Vintage Gorham 48 piece sterling silver flatware set. Set consists of eight pieces each of dinner forks, dinner knives, teaspoons, soup spoons, salad forks, and butter knives. Most pieces are marked "Pat 1894 Sterling" with the lion, anchor, and G mark. A few pieces are marked "Gorham Sterling," as shown in the photo. And a few pieces are marked "Sterling," with the lion, anchor, and G mark. All pieces are the same identical pattern. About four pieces of each set of 8 are monogrammed with the letter "R." The remainder have no monogram. I am assuming the set was probably enlarged at one time. Pieces are all in good condition. The dinner forks each measure 7 inches long, and each weigh about 1.58 ounces on my electronic scale, for a total weight rounded down to about 12 ounces. The salad forks each measure 6 1/2 inches long and each weigh about 1.33 ounces, for a total weight of about 10.4 ounces.
The teaspoons each measure 5 7/8 inches long and each weigh about 1.04 ounces, for a total weight of about 8.3 ounces. The soup spoons each measure 6 1/4 inches long and each weigh about 1.26 ounces, for a total weight of about 10 ounces. The butter knives each measure about 5 7/8 inches long and each weigh about .91 ounces, for a total weight of about 7.2 ounces. The dinner knives each measure about 8 7/8 inches long. Because the blades are stainless and not silver I did not weight them. The total weight of the set, not counting the silver in the knife handles, is about 47.9 ounces. $15 covers shipping and insurance up to maximum value.
