You are invited to bid on this lovely vintage cottageware teapot, made by Grimwades/Royal Winton of Hanley, Staffordshire in approximately the 1930s. It is in the form of an old country inn called 'Ye Olde Swan', as shown by the sign above the door. The inn is in a lovely picturesque old half-timbered cottage with diamond leaded windows and tiled roof. There are hollyhocks growing round the walls of the inn, and the spout and handle are formed by trees growing at the corners of the building, with the leaves spreading onto the walls and roof of the inn. The knop on the lid is formed from the inn's chimney pots. The colours on the pot are quite vivid and very much in the Art Deco palette, with blue windows, bright green foliage on the trees, red and blue flowers and a striking mottling of red and purple on the roof. This lovely pot measures almost 6.5" tall to the top of the knop, by 5", by 7.5" from the back of the handle to the tip of the spout. The bottom of the pot is marked "Ye Olde Inne" 'Made in England. Hand Painted. British Reg No 819286'. This pattern and registration number are attributed to Grimwades. The pot is in good condition with no cracks. There is a small chip to the rim of the pot - this cannot really be seen when the lid is on - and a small chip to the spout - see photo, and tiny chip to the inner rim of the lid. read more
