Vintage Grindley Cheese Dish with Cover - Wonderful! Available is a fabulous vintage Cheese Dish with Cover. This Cheese Dish is made by Grindley in England. The bottom of the dish shows the Sailboat ship mark in a shield with a crown above all. This mark was used by Grindley in 1954. T is no pattern name on the bottom, nor can I find a pattern name through . I found a couple that were close, but not exact. Both of those were manufactured in 1954, so I am guessing the age of this beauty to be just about then. The cover has a air hole in the very top. The pattern and colors are very reminiscent of California pottery of the '40s & '50s. The pattern shows leaves of brown, yellow and turquoise, with embellishments of red and yellow on off white porcelain. The cover has the pattern and then a trim of red band going all the way around. The dish is next to perfect with no chips, cracks or repairs. Minor crazing on the dish, none on the cover. The underside of the dish has a very small spot which appears to have missed glazing. The plate measures 7 3/8" x 6 1/4". The cover is 5 1/2" x 4 1/4". The whole thing measures approximately 4.5" tall to the top of the handle. A wonderful addition to your collection!
