Great Condition for it's age, showing signs of use and wear, with some patina. Back Has Insignia and the number 00184, alone with Made In Germany. 10 Characters per Inch - See photo of Typed Card - Was typed on Machine of course! Shown in LAST photo. Ribbon should be replaced before extended use. Beautiful piece for any collection, you would be hard pressed to find disappointment in this one. The pocket and fasteners all still work on the case. Their are some ware spots on inside edges of top cover for case. See photos for the most details. Wow - what a gift this would be for the aspiring author or collector. TYPEWRITER PRODUCTION POST WORLD WAR II All typewriter manufacturers of Germany suffered in the devastation of the Second World War. Most had been converted, in some part or in total, to armaments production, and had of course targeted during the conflict. After the War, the German economy was suffering, and in need of cash flow, both east and west seeking to get manufacturing going again. Given the extreme shortage of typewriters everyw, typewriter manufacturing companies w given a priority as a ready source of revenue and employment in the post war effort. Companies retooled as quickly as possible and got back into production. When Germany was split following the WWII, West Germany was in possession of Olympia, Adler and Triumph; East Germany was in possession of part of Olympia (which was renamed Optima Buromaschinenwerke in 1950), Groma, the Rheinmetall plant, and the former Seidel & Naumann plant which had made Erika machines prewar, and others. The Groma machines restarted after the war; the new firm was VEB Groma Buromaschinen, Markersdorf, and in about 1950 the tiny Gromina appeared (commonly seen labeled as the Groma Kolibri - as seen in this auction). This machine, like the Erika (and the US-made Smith-Corona) has parallel key action. It is also among the very flattest machines ever made, right in league with the Rooy. The Groma machines are about the hardest to find of the East German portables. Production of all Groma-pattern portables, ended by 1960. Items must be paid for within 7 days of auction closing.
