VINTAGE GULF OIL 36" LIGHTED GAS PUMP ISLAND SIGN
Sold For:
or Sign In to see what it's worth.
This is a vintage, original Gulf Oil light up sign. It is one sided and taken right off the canopy over the gas pump island by a contractor as he was changing the station over to another brand. It measures 36" square and is 7" thick. It has a plastic face that is in excellent condition with no cracks or scratches. The G U L F letters on the face are embossed (raised). The sign case is aluminum and has no dents. The sides of the aluminum case are brown. If it were in my collection, I would re-paint it Gulf blue. I have no idea why it is painted brown. The entire sign is in excellent condition and the bulbs and ballast all work. I have replaced two bulbs that were broken. As you can see in several of the photos, it lights up perfectly. I have made a temporary electrical connection and it looks great whether lit or unlit. Face has a nice glossy shine. It is 120 volts so after you connect a plug, it can be plugged in to regular house current. All you have to do is connect your own cord and plug to the two short wires that protrude from the back of the sign. This is where it was hard wired directly to a switch at the gas station and where the contractor cut the wires when removing the sign. This sign would look great hanging in your garage, shop or barn, next to your classic, muscle or antique car or hot rod. It can be hung outside since it is weather proof. In fact it has been hanging outside all its life. It would also look great as a night light in your game room or family room. Please email me if you have any questions. Payment by pay pal or ask for other methods of payment.
