This was unquestionably a boot black's shoe box, carried with him from place to place as he shined shoes. It was well made with tongue and groove joinery. We particularly love the tattered red carpet on the top, that's applied with decorative carpet tacks and bordered by silk braid. The most charming aspect, we think, are the egg crates the bottom is made of. This is a great piece of Americana and a terrific collectible. Age (ca.) c1920s Dimensions It measures 14" X 10" X 14". Condition Good condition. This is a working piece so it should show signs of wear and use -- that's what gives it 'good age'. It has no missing pieces and all hinges work. The carpet is a bit worn ... as it should be. The wood has a rich aged patina. The brushes are quality bristle brushes that exhibit appropriate age and usage. Provenance This item comes the estate of a 95 year old, who had been a music teacher with her own studio for decades. She was also an antique collector and an amateur antique dealer so both her musical instruments and her antique collections were exceptional and of the highest quality !Please scroll down for more photos and any of them.
