This auction is for a lovely old metal advertising sign which reads 'hot drinks'. I bought the sign from a collector's fair about 10 years ago and fully intended to display it on my kitchen wall. However, as usual with many of my best plans, the sign has instead been stored under the bed for all that time. This is a really heavy sign - it weighs 2.2kg, not bad considering it measures only 37cm x 10cm and is about 0.5cm thick. I am guessing that it is made of cast iron in the body which has been blacked whilst the lettering and the outline of the sign are I think made of brass. I just gave it a little rub over with the brasso and the shine starts to appear - it could do with more elbow grease to make it really shiny whilst the background would benefit from a rub over with fire grate blacking as a couple of patches are looking a little oxidised. However, the condition is otherwise great with no damage to the metalwork at all. There are 2 holes drilled, one at the top and the other at the bottom with which it could be bolted to the wall.
