VINTAGE Herbert Johnson Jockey Helmet (Skull Cap) You are bidding on a VINTAGE jockey helmet (protective skull cap) in good condition. It is approved to British standard. The helmet has minor scratches on the top.
It is a lovely vintage helmet by Herbert Johnson. Founded in 1889, Herbert Johnson's reputation began when he met Prince Charles, who later became King Edward VII. The Prince's helmet was blown off and damaged whilst riding in the park one day and the young Johnson picked it up and offered to repair it. With the repair complete, the Prince was particularly impressed and suggested that Johnson set himself up in business. He did this and immediately became synonymous with quality.
Inside the cap reads:
"By Appt of her majesty the Queen"
