Absolutely beautiful and quite rare vintage ash LCW (lounge chair wood) from the 1950's. I purchased this from the original owner in 1998, it was actually part of a pair which I purchased from him, I sold the other one last year. I had planned on keeping this one for my personal collection, but my wife has changed our decor, and now it sits in an extra bedroom covered in a blanket. Just seems like such a waste of a mid century modern iconic piece of art, that I want it to go to someone who will display it proudly. We never let anyone sit on it, it has alway been for display purposes only, and the condition is perfect!! No damage, no splits, no veneer loss, just normal patina from being about 60 years old. The finish is all original, and all we have ever done is dusted it. This chair originally had one big rubber oval shock mount on the back rest, this shock mount was badly deteriorated when I got this chair. I sent the chair back to Herman Miller, and they replaced the shock mount with 2 round ones, new screws, and they also filled in the original shock mount indentation with a thin black rubber patch. As I said, this was professionally done by Herman Miller in 1999 or 2000. Now you can by replacement original style shock mounts, but they were not available at the time I had this restoration work done. The two center shock mounts under the seat were replaced in the 1970's by the original owner, they were also deteriorated at the time, and needed to be repaired. He informed me that Herman Miller also did those repairs, so t are also two newer shock mounts under the seat, and two newer screws. Please note that I saved the original screws from the seat back shock mount repair, and they will be included with this sale, I also have 4 extra Herman Miller shock mount screws which they sent me with the seat back repair, I will include these as well. It has the original 5-2-5 screw pattern, and Herman Miller confirmed that this is an early example, possibly made by Evans Wood Products for Herman Miller, and from the late 1940's or early 1950's. All four original metal foot glides are present. This a very rare find in this condition, and should be in a Charles Eames museum display. NO RESERVE. Shipping via UPS ground, cost TBD once I know w it's going.
