This is an antique vintage "A Fork" or slickfork saddle marked with "CA Granis Waterville, WASH." on the back of the cantle. I can't find my saddle maker reference book for info on Mr. Granis but t is a Chas. August Granis buried in the Waterville cemetary that was born in 1857 and died in 1932. That would be the correct time line for a saddle of this type. The seat measures 13", the swells are 8-1/2" the cantle is 5-1/2" and the gullet is 6". It looks to be about a 3/4 single ring rigging. The sheepskin lining is in good shape and the 8 saddle strings are good also. The rigging has been replaced on the right side and t is some old repair on the stirrup leathers. The horn appears to have been recovered. The stirrups do not appear to be original. I checked the tree and I can detect no give in the cantle or the bars. This old saddle has definately seen some miles in the sagebrush country of Eastern Washington and Oregon. It was still being used by the previous owner's young grandsons up until a couple of months ago. Thanks for looking and please check out my other cowboy items. <><
