Up for auction is a very interesting set of goggles or eyewear made of two pieces of triangular-shaped horn each measuring 2-3/4" x 1-3/4" and each having a 1-5/8" center slit. I presume these were meant to protect the eyes from the glare of snow and ice. They are attached to a thin band that feels somewhat papery but may be some form of animal hide. This band has snapped in the back but could be repaired with something similar to the twisted red and beige twine used to strengthen the band between and on either side of the two eye pieces. T is a slide to adjust the band to differing head sizes and this is made of the same material as the band itself. T are very faint green hand-lettered words on the inside of the band; I cannot decipher the first word but I'm sure the last word spells Alaska. I don't know if these goggles were used by native people or sold to those on expeditions but they probably have a bit of age to them as I can't imagine anyone using these for quite a while. They might make an interesting addition to a collection of eyewear. Thanks for looking.
