Vintage hunting knife. Blade is marked "Hackman Finland Stainless. Tapio Wirkkala." Knife is 8 5/8 inches long. Blade measures 4 inches long. Handle appears to be made of ebony or a similar dark, dense wood. Original leather sheath has a bear paw logo. Knife is in excellent condition. I don't see any blemishes on the blade. Blade does not appear to have been sharpened since it was made. T is a bit of green soiling on the brass at the front of the handle that should come right off. Sheath is also in good condition. I understand that this knife was probably made in the early 1970s. It is a beautiful functional object and should appeal not only to knife collectors, but to anyone interested in mid century modern design. Tapio Wirkkala was a famous artist from Finland who died in 1985. Wirkkala is the cutler who made the knife.
