This is a vintage soup tureen made by Hutschenreuther of Germany around the 1930s when they had an artistic collaboration with Meissen . The pattern matches Meissen's Blue Onion design minus the actual onions. The rest of the pattern is the same though this tureen doesn't have a hole for the ladle, as does Meissen's. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or crazing . It measures about 14" from handle to handle with the length of the open rim just over 10". It has a width of about 8 1/2" and a depth of about 5 1/2". Scroll down for photos of the tureen, the marks on the bottom and enlarged photos . I am selling these Meissen pieces for a widow whose husband collected fine antique porcelain. She has a very large set of Meissen Blue Onion that I will be selling in several lots . T are more platters, plates in all sizes, bowls, cup and saucers. T is also a very unusual triangle shaped dish that is very rare that is already up for auction. T are advantages and disadvantages to this approach . The advantage is that you are not driving up the price by bidding with your competition. The disadvantage is that bidders often forget to keep track of their watched items and find out too late that the item sold for less than you would have been willing to pay, or it didn't sell at all and you could have had it for the minimum bid . The solution to this dilemma : Bid just the mimimum bid amount early on. This doesn't prevent you from also bidding at the end, and it doesn't drive up the price because it is just the minimum. Also, if you tend to lose track of what is on your WATCH LIST, then you wouldn't have to worry about losing an item that receives no other bids because you would already have bid. Even the most careful bidder can have an unforseen interruption that prevents him/her from bidding and lose the item altogether. Decide on your maximum : If you bid at the very end, bid the maximum.
