You are bidding on a vintage 3 page civil war letter with envelope (without stamp) from Samuel B Dick Company F, Ninth Regiment, and Pennsylvania to his future wife. The letter is from Headquarters, New Creek , VA dated July 29, 1863 . The letter is full of war news such as: hunting rebels trying to form a company and looking for a rebel trophy, and back home news. The letter is 2 and half pages, folded with some war news on each page. The letter is in good+ condition and the envelope is in fair condition with just some yellowing and foxing due to the age. Samuel B Dick was born in Meadville, Crawford County, Pa., October 26, 1836; attended the public schools and Allegheny College, Meadville, Pa.; engaged in banking; during the Civil War was in command of Company F, Ninth Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserve Corps; severely wounded in Dranesville, Va., December 20, 1861; subsequently served as colonel of the regiment until February 1863, when he resigned; commanded the Fifth Regiment, Pennsylvania Militia, and proceeded to Newcreek, W.Va., in July 1863; mayor of Meadville in 1870; elected as a Republican to the Forty-sixth Congress (March 4, 1879-March 3, 1881); was not a candidate for reelection in 1880 to the Forty-seventh Congress; president of the Pittsburgh, Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad Co. until April 1900; president of Phoenix read more
