Vintage Italy Inlaid Wood Music Box, Sorrento Reuge From a Rye, NH estate, this is a vintage music box that we believe is Sorrento with a Reuge music movement. T is only one label which reads "Made in Italy". I have a personal collection of these boxes and this piece certainly looks like the real thing. The box is a light tan color with a floral inlay of shades of darker brown. The tune played may be an Italian tune as I do not recognize it. We believe the box to be circa 1960s to 1970s. It measures 4 1/4" long by 3" wide by 2" tall. It is in excellent condition with no scratches or chips. In addition, we are listing in a separate auction tomorrow, a near identical but for color, music box that is marked Sorrento and Reuge. This is the type of music box that this woman collected. Sorrento inlay wood art it is actually a decorative composition obtained by cutting, inserting and putting together different coloured pieces of wood to create a design or picture. These pieces are then set into a surface to create a design that is usually level with the surface. The art of handmade inlaid wood work is an old and noble Italian tradition typical of Southern Italy, especially the Sorrento area, by skilled and highly trained artisans whose craft is handed down from generation to generation.
