Up for bid is a vintage DETECTO-WATE hanging scale with its original basket. The scale face is white with black printing; the large even numbers run from 0 to 18 and the smaller odd numbers run from 1 to 19. The scale itself is black on the back and is without a glass cover. I don't know if it ever had one as we've had this scale hanging for over 20 years. It works fine (I use it to weigh my ebay items) and has an adjusting screw on the bottom hanger. It is pre-loaded to compensate for the basket weight. The basket measures about 17" long by 12" wide and 7" deep. The scale is roughly 8" in diameter. The markings on the face are: (in reverse in a black bar) MFD BY THE JACOBS BROS. CO. INC. BROOKLYN N.Y. U.S.A. then DETECTO-WATE with REG. U. S. PAT. OFF. In a block following that is: THIS TYPE JACOBS DETECTO-WATE SCALE APPROVED BY THE DIRECTOR OF STANDARDS FOR MASS. APP'D L-5- N.Y.C. PENNA. ALA. N.C. Below the center point in small lettering is: serial number (t isn't one printed). Stenciled to the right is Capacity 40 LBS. over a stencil line blotting out a printed Capacity 20. Below this are the printed words LBS by 1 oz. It looks like the weight capacity was upgraded after the dial was printed. The scale and basket are definitely used, but overall the condition is very good. I do have a reserve price on this item but its low compared to the $250+ price that ebay sellers are asking for a new version!*** I try to describe everything thoroughly but please email if you have any questions.
