This attractive older Japanese black-ground cloisonne vase features a garden full of colorful blooms, and a pair of watchful dove mates to tend them. Please see details of a small repair in the condition report and photos; otherwise, the vase remains in a good state of preservation for its age, which we believe to be at least a half-century. Moreover, with a height of 9.5 inches, this artistic creation was born to serve up outstanding elegance in any home it graces. Though unmarked, its craftsmanship is in the tradition of some of Japan's oldest and best makers of fine cloisonne.

CONDITION: Rather good overall. An old mishap had left a quarter-size spot of lost enamel along the lower rim, at the left fringe of the decorated field, along with some deformation of the rim itself. The enamel loss has been conserved to the extent possible, using a non-waterproof acrylic-type glaze. This repair makes the damage difficult to see in all but intense glare, which we've used effectively in our images to highlight the remaining wrinkles. Additionally, t is a much smaller unretouched fracture that is visible just under the shoulder, about two inches above the branch that extends outward at the left side of the motif. Some stress lines, a few with minute losses of enamel, also may be seen in glancing light, running down from the neck across the shoulder. These issues are pointed out in our photos, so please examine the images closely and clarify any questions before bidding, thanks.
