Vintage Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku Drawing Painted Roll Wooden Box Signed This vintage Japanese Kakejiku Scroll painting is in good cosmetic condition, showing only normal signs of age and wear. The scroll image is a Mountain landscape in winter, depicting a small home with a horse and couple in the forefront, tree line and a mountain in the background. The image measures 52 inches long x 12 1/2 inches wide, and is applied to a bordered paper scroll measuring a total length of 82 inches x 16 3/4 inches wide. The piece has two slight tears at the top, just below the handing rod, and slight spots of discoloration on the vintage paper, appropriate for the age. The bottom weight rod has bone end caps for decoration and added weight. Some creasing over the paper, appropriate too, for occasional rolling and storage. The painting is signed in the lower right corner, artist unknown. The scroll is stored in a wooden box, which was sent via USPS from San Francisco to New York City on December 11, 1945 (see photograph).
