Original Japanese Makie Wall ScreenOriginal, signed Makie lacquer painting on silk mounted as a four panel folding wall or table screen, 1967.A dramatic cherry blossom landscape scene is formed entirely from raised lacquer in shades of gold, silver, charcoal and copper.Labeled: "MAKIE WALL SCREEN, This wall screen is entirely handpainted on real silk or gold teapaper. This technique of raised painting was used only on old fine and very costly Imperial ware. Japanese lacquer refer to this type of raised handpainting is "Makie". Now for the first time, it is being done this beautiful wall screen." Hand made and painted in Kyoto, Japan, 1967, Original.Definition of Makie: A general category of techniques in which designs are created by sprinkling gold and other materials on lacquer. Literal meaning is sprinkled picture. Condition: A portion of the center seam has become separated and should be reattached. Please note, some minor loss and/or damage may or may not be present in the area surrounding the signature. Please see photos. Also, there is one small hole in the backing paper which does not go through to the painting and is not visible from the front.
