Purchased some time ago at a dealer only antique auction in Hikone, this drip glaze vase was hand made over 80 years ago in the tradition of the Shiga kilns. It has the Shiga Raki classic drip glaze with a subtle iridensence. It is quite tall (16" - 40cm) and about 5" (14 cm) wide with a mouth opening of a bit over 3" (8 cm). It has a kiln mark on the back (see picture 5) where it either touched the side of the kiln or another piece of pottery being fired at the same time. These marks were typical of hand thrown, kiln fired pottery of this era. The front side with the iredescent drip glaze is in fine shape and has a quite eleganze known as "shibui". It h olds water nicely and would make an excellent ikebana container. You'll love it.......I guarantee it!
