Vintage Japanese women's lovely formal soft black handpainted silk crepe Tomesode. This formal kimono has 5monsuki ( highest class family crests) in the 5 wysteria leaf pattern. The upper lining is traditional red smooth scarf silk and the hemline is padded with silk indicative of the older tomesode. The bottom lining is the same handpainted silk crepe as the outer kimono silk. The intricate delicate handpainted pattern is enhanced with delicate gold embroidery and couching embroidery on the front of the tomesode. The pattern is of flowers, fans, maple leaves, cherry blossoms, peonies, pines, clouds, pairs of cranes in flight and bamboo leaves. The cranes are enhanced with fine white silk embroidery on the wing and red embroidery on their crowns. the colors used to decorate the numerous fans, flowers and leaves are French blue, white, biege, taupe, rust, peach and soft olive green. All the hand painting is on a hand dyed ecru background. There is a little fade thru of color on the lining inside painting in one small area. One has to look closely to see this light blue mear in the pattern on the inside, otherwise this wonderful antique Tomesode is in excellent wearable condition.
