Vintage 1930's Japanese Omeshi pattern (expensive silk thread tapestry weave pattern) rich jet black silk satin jacquard haori with one monsuki (high class family crest). This is a Hitoe (unlined) haori. A rare haori as it is a formal style and unlined for summer wear traditionally. The rarity is because it is cold in Japan and summer formal haori are not often used. The luxurious silk satin jacuard woven background pattern is of swirling water. This is a fairly tight all over pattern. It is lovely and has added meaning as the Omeshi embroidery is of scattered tiny oak leaves floating delicately on the water pattern. The little oak leaves are in deep ketalic red, old silver and taupe. The monsuki is a wysteria flower in white on the upper back for formal wear. The sleeves are lined with a rich ivory silk satin jacquard of bold cranes and clouds. This haori looks to have never been worn. It even has it's original silk macrame haori ties. This haori is in MINT wearable condition. It measures 24 inches across the back and 51 inches from sleeve edge to sleeve edge and 34 inches long. This is a good large size for Japanese haori. All Japanese haori and kimono are completely hand sewn and hand finished inside and out. The haori (short kimono coat) makes a dramatic, comfortable, layered fashion statement, worn as an open or belted jacket.
