We are not riding or showing anymore so I am listing all the rest of our tack..and my personal horsie items ..Enjoy bidding.. I am starting to disperse some of our family estate..I know very little about most of these items so email me with questions..it is hard to sell family things but the time has come..have a question? I AM SELLING THIS AS IT WAS REPRESENTED TO ME ..enjoy NO RESERVE This piece of Yemenite jewelry was given to me as board payment by a lady that has family in Yemen .. she gave me several pieces of absolutely STUNNING vintage or antique jewelry .. I am listing this necklace now as it is one of my favorite.. it has 5 handcrafted TEARDROP Filligree pieces with scrolls roping and fancy designs around the edges .. beading .. and a coral piece in the center ( she said she thought it was coral.. either way it is lovely.. the chain is attached to either side with filligree spacers .. each piece has 4 dangles with sterling beads on the bottom.. the Chain is MARKED 925 on a little loop on either side of the clasp and the clasp is also marked 925 it is SIGNED on the loop ATI ..the necklace measures almost 18 inches give or take .. .. this lady told me this was a VINTAGE piece and that it was made in Yemen and called Yemenite jewelry.. I asked if she would send me some information on Yemenite jewelry as I don't know anything about it .. if you read below you will read what she sent to me about this and the other jewelry I now have.. .. please know I am relying on her information and what is seen and MARKED on the jewelry.. check ebay and see other Yeminite jewelry !!!!! Barb, As promised, here is a little information about the yemenite filigree necklace: Handcrafted 925 sterling silver tribal antique jewelry designed, combining traditional craftsmanship and integrating modern fashion trends with ancient arabesque look. For generations Yemenite filigree knowledge was passed from father to sons. The center of Yemenite filigree is the capital city Sana’a. According to records there were about 300 jewelers in downtown Sana’a. However other cities such as Haban also developed unique styles. The westernization of Yemen accelerated the decline of traditional silver work via economic influences, new tools etc. Technology has had a major impact on production of Yemenite jewelry, with new tools that shorten production time. For best results, some detailed filigree elements are still done by hand with traditional methods. Filigree jewelry making was considered a respected profession among the Yemenite. The profession was an exclusive domain of the Jews, thus the jewelry has cultural as well as religious applications, and many pieces of Judaica were made in filigree. The Yemenite Jews worked primarily with silver, and occasionally with gold for special requests. The style and design was retained after the Jews immigrated to Israel.
