His nickname fit him well, the "Beast" or "XX". One opposing team pitcher was quoted as saying "Foxx had muscles in his hair" ! Babe and Jimmie were very close friends, on and off the baseball diamond. They performed in baseball exhibitions and clinics, teaching the youngsters the art of handeling a bat and ball. After his retirement, he'd stop by to visit Babe and George at their home in Tampa. During his visits, it was only natural for a game of golf to ensue. Jimmie had previously met Jimmy Demaret and Ben Hogan during The Miami Open. Mr Hogan had just won the US Open , so Jimmie decided on getting a set of Hogan clubs, thinking that would help his game. Unfortunately even with all Mr. Foxx's muscles, he game still suffered. In one of his visits to the Zahariaes, Tampa Golf & C.C., Jimmie not only lost his clubs, but in a crazy side bet he also lost his wristwatch to Babe. This Jimmie Foxx personally owned set consists of: Hogan / Macgregor clubs 3-9 Hogan Model #1622, Par Maker Stainless Steel Irons, Kroyden Stainless Steel Wedge, Hogan / Macgregor Parmaker Putter. All have leather grips. Ben Hogan Golf Bag. 1-2-3-4 Ben Hogan Macgregor Woods. If your a Baseball collector or a Jimmie Foxx fan this is just for you. A very unique and sought after item. ***** We are asking many times if we have a C.O.A. . These items are not bought from a store to sell to you but from the actual Estate of the Zaharia's.. All the history of the items were passed on to me by either Babe or George themselves. We are the original source. We do forward a letter from myself on the Foundations letterhead stating the information of the item sold. Most of these items have been for over a half century in our humidity controlled storage. Some of the items include Golf clubs, Bags, Balls, Autographed photos, Books, and other memorabilia. Also, other donated pieces over the years from famous Sports figures, Entertainers, Military and Political figures. All acquisitions will include provenances and any other points of interest. Monies, including donations, derived from individual auctions, with on going grants; enable this Foundation to be supportive in all its “Forgotten Youth” programs. We are presently negotiating to obtain a site, here in the Tampa Bay area, to construct a facility that will educate, encourage, and support all these children and teenagers.
