JONN P. SMITH SNAG-HOOK? this rare 9 hook variation is 6 1/4" high X 4 3/4" across when opened and 3 3/4" across when set. this old hook apears to be a john p smith snag-hook made in new haven conneticut circa 1905. the demesions are right on to the one in the spring loaded fish hooks, trap & lures collectors book by william blauser and timothy mierzwa. this variation has 9 hooks instead of 8 and the hooks are mounted a little different. it has spring steel arms and brass hardware. it is in good condition for it's age. it also has the expandable spring bait holder mounted on top. i cannot find any markings on this old hook but the book says some are not marked. there are only a few of these hooks known to exist and this is the only one with 9 hooks! this spring hook shows its age with great patina! this is used as a snag hook and a spring hook by adjusting the ring and the way its rigged. in the pics you can see it both open and set. again i have found no marks on this hook so i will leave it up to the pro's to decide. whether it was made by smith or not it is still a very old very unique very cool example of a sping loaded trap hook that displays great! a must have for any collector!! no reserve so highest bidder gets it! if you need more pics or have any questions please ask. thanks
