He was part of a very corrupt small group of politicians known as The Triumvirate, who used to shake down people for money. The other two members of this group were District Attorney William Corcoran and Daniel H. Coakley. They had come to think of themselves as impregnable. This group was in direct conflict with the old wealth of Boston, known as the Brahmans. One of Bostons wealthiest men, Godfrey Lowell Cabot, the Brahman of Brahmans, was constantly trying get them brought to justice. He spent thousands of dollars of his own money in this pursuit. At one time he petitioned the Supreme Judaical Court for the impeachment of Pelletier. In 1917, Pelletier was on trial for extortion charges. Finally, one of the members of The Triumvirate admitted in court to the charges that were placed against him. The other two members of this group didn't say anything to defend themselves. Shorty later, Pelletier committed suicide.
