VINTAGE KACHINA/KATSINA DOLL COLLECTION Set – Lot of 5 TEWA,SMITH + This collection of 5 authentic Kachina dolls was gatheredover a period of years by a relative of mine. My understanding is that they were purchased directly from the artists or galleries representing them, during her travels and were part of her estate. They were recently gifted to my mom. The dolls are signed but not dated. Each figure is beautifully crafted and adorned with natural elements such as wood, fur, feathers, shells, etc. I believe they are contemporary pieces – That is, they are at least 25 years old, but maybe a little older. Please note that I tried to make out the text on the bases as best I could. I don't know much about these but they are probably Hopi in origin. The dolls are fragile and in some cases may have some damage so please review all photos. I will include any loose pieces I found in the box (see photos) and will pack as carefully as possible. The Collection is sold “as is”. Average height of Dolls is approximately 8-9” tall. Collection includes the following: “Fancy” Dancer – Signed: Melvin S. Tewa, Lower Moencopi Tuba City, AZ 86045 Brightly colored wood figure with bold geometric designs and bits of leather and wool. On a round wooden base. Owl – signed C Smith Fur, feathers, twigs, leather – base is broken, but still stands.
