This auction is for a set of 7stacking wood boxes that I believe were used in Japan to store Kimonos. They could be used for storage of anything, or just a beautiful display. The largest is about 12 1/2" x 15" with the lid on and is about 5" deep. The smallest is about 7 1/4" x 10" and the same depth. The boxes are made of a very lightweight wood that is a rich dark brown and they appear to be lacquered. The grain is visible and beautiful. T are some tiny nails in them but t are many dovetails so I'm sure they were handmade. T is a little wear on them but I was told they are quite old. The boxes stack inside each other and the lids stack inside each other but you can't stack the boxes inside each other with the lids on. It makes sense that perhaps at one time this was possible but they do not fit now. They were purchased in Tokyo. Each box and matching lid has the konji signature of either the maker of the box or the owner of the kimono. All 7 boxes bear the same konji signature. My daughter in Japan thinks it is the name of the maker of the box. I know nothing else about them. I will quote the winning bidder the actual postage depending on how you want your auction shipped. I was told by the US Post Office that parcel post packages can weigh up to 70 lbs so light packages end up with a high risk of damage when a 70 lb box is thrown on it. This package will weigh around 15 lbs. I can quote UPS and Fed Ex, I entered an East Coast zip code for both of these and the shipping ground is about $20. This also includes insurance. DO NOT PAY UNTIL YOU ARE INVOICED. I do not charge a handling fee. If you pay by PayPal I will reimburse over-postage. I will not reimburse if you send a check. I require contact with the winning bidder within 3 days of the end of the auction to arrange payment. When you have received your auction and are satisfied please leave me feedback and I will do the same for you. I do not intentionally misrepresent any item I sell and have described the above to the best of my ability.
