This vintage vanity case has had wonderful care over the years! My guess is that it dates to the early 1900's when travel by rail was in its heyday. Passengers usually had most of their belongings in large travel trunks but the toiletries and everyday personal care items were carried in these smaller cases. The genuine leather case measures 11" by 16" by 5 1/4". On the inner edge of the case the words "Made In Germany" are imprinted in Gold lettering; it is difficult to discern from the pictures. Also the handle of one of the brushes is stamped/engraved "Made In Germany". The hairbrushes and the thin cylindrical bottle cap have accents of cobalt blue "celluloid" trimmed in gold (I believe) because t is little or no tarnish. The brushes are of stiff natural fiber and are not worn down. The taffeta lining is very clean and almost looks new. The exterior navy blue leather is soft and supple. The hardware is made of brass. This vanity case compares to some that I have seen selling for hundreds of dollars! Please look up designers like ( SANTIQUE MORITZ MADLER VANITY TRAVEL CASE ). I looked for a designer name but have been unable to locate one. I know that this case would be a special addition to a connoisseur's collectionThank you for shopping and enjoy the adventure. "Carpe Dieum" as Horace once said!!!
