Welcome to Marie's Vintage Perfumes. This store is a collection of vintage perfume bottles from the estate of Marie-Louise Fredyma, my mother who passed away in 2010 after nearly 70 years in the antique business. Marie's perfumes were a special place in her collection of antiques and vintage items and are now offered for sale as part of her estate. Description: Vintage Lancome Conquête (1935) Perfume Bottle & Box. Bottle has silver label on front "Conquete Lancome France". Bottle has elogent glass stopper with elogent flowers embroiled as its design, possibly Lalique based on research. Bottle has gold wire wrapped around base of neck below stopper. Bottle is 1/4 full of original perfume. A very decorative and distinctive looking bottle & stopper. Box is gold wrapped with large floral and motifs that match an Art Nouveau and Lalique styles of more expensive perfumes of the early 1900's. Box has label on front at base "Lancome France". Background: The history of Lancome perfumes and cosmetics began in 1935, when a Frenchman named Armand Petitjean (1884 to 1970) launched his company. Petitjean was a former diplomat when he began collaborating with Francois Coty (1874 to 1904, born Joseph Marie Francois Spoturno), whose own line of Coty products established his reputation in perfume making. After Coty died in 1934, the working relationship between Petitjean and Coty's celebrated artistic director, Georges Delhomme, grew even closer and lasted for decades. Delhomme joined Lancome, and designed the elegant perfume bottles that garnered accolades for Lancome perfumes.Lancome was established in 1935 at 29 Faubourg-Saint-Honore in Paris , by Armand Petitjean, the previous managing director of Coty. The first five perfumes were introduced at the 1935 Brussels exhibition. The perfume firm was awarded a prize and became a major company. Georges Delhomme, who worked for Coty from 1931-1935, became the artistic director for Lancome from 1935-1965 and was the creator for almost all of Lancome's presentations during the 1950s. Condition: Perfume Bottle is in excellent condition with no cracks, scratches, or chips. Labels and Box have some wear otherwise in very good condition for vintage item from 1930's.
