The celebration of the Yuletide Season, with its religious observances, customs and folklore, varies all over the world. Legends and facts blend into a variety of rituals and traditions that are fascinating to learn about while they give us a more intimate understanding of people in different lands.
These ornaments were originally sold in 1979 (30 years old). These ornaments range in measurements from approximately 2.5 to 5.5 inches high. These ornaments are not only decorative, but they are also a teaching aid for young children. Each ornament comes with a tag that tells about the custom of each country. Japan- In Japan, churches and homes are decorated with lighted trees, candles, and pine. Carols are sung and gifts exchanged. Mexico- In Mexico, children are blindfolded and given a stick to break the pinata, a hanging figure filled with candies, toys and fruit. Feliz Navidad. Norway-Childred love " Julenissen" the tiny gnome of Christmas with his pointed hat and white beard, bearing gifts. Gledelig Jul. Poland- In Poland, Star Boys hold star-shaped lanterns and sing as they bring gifts and carry wheat to decorate home and church. Wesolych Swiat. Russia-On Christmas Eve the first star symbolizes the beginning of Christmas and in villages young girls pray to Stars to bring them good fortune. Scotland- First footing is a Scottish custom. If the first person entering the house on the New Year is a dark-haired man with a gift of bread, coal or money, the family will be sure of a prosperous year. Molaig Sona Duit. Spain- In Spain, children fill their shoes with carrots or hay for the Tree Kings' hungry camels to eat on their way to Bethlehem. Felices Pascuas.
