MORE TIMELESS TREASURES ANTIQUE METAL DEER FIGURINE An antique metal deer or elk figurine that stands 11 1/2" from base to top of antler and approx. 12" from antler tip to nose. The base is approx. 4" x 6". Weight is 3# 7oz. I do not know much about metals, but these do not respond to a magnet. The base has an incised stamp that is partially legible reading Made in Hong Kong. Believe this sort of art deco style was made ca. 1920-40? The pewter-looking metal has been partially hand wrought at the least. Noted by the marks on the nose and around the eyes and ears some sort of soldering metal work has been done. The eyes are painted black. The stars or snowflakes have been applied by the maker and appear to be brass? The antlers are interesting as they can be removed. Either hand filed or machine? The mouth area has been applied and some of the gold plating is worn as well as some worn gold areas around the decorative gold rim at the base. All of the gray metal looks like it was filed by the craftsman which created a hair/fur effect on the animal. Very interesting figurine in very good condition. May or may not be all handcrafted?
