This simply, yet elegant SOLID .925 STERLING Bowl is very large with a rim diameter of 10 1/8" and weighs slightly over 1/2 pound ! It is NOT weighted!

This is a larger bowl; appropriate to serve mashed potatoes and vejetables. Alternatively, it looks fabulous on a stand or lying flat as a decorative home accent.

What truly makes this decorative service piece stand out among other bowls of the same size is the unusual array of borders leading up to the center bowl . This bowl has three distinct borders !! If you decide to actually use this as a serving piece, these borders was really "pop" as they surround the contents.

The outermost border measures 1/2" thick and is adorned with six consecutive sections of floral blooms, acanthus scrolling foliate and beading. The middle 1/2" rim border is plain with the exception of two narrow bands bordering the top and bottom edge. The innermost rim 5/8" border has six more distinct floral, foliage and beading accents that match the larger outer rim floral segments, but they are simpler and smaller. Ultimately, these added accents are the final touch that makes this bowl extra special!

Another interesting feature of the three borders is that the middle border is actually slightly higher than the other two borders. Although it is a subtle design element, it definitely adds to the uniqueness of this piece and is worth mentioning.

T are NO MONOGRAMS or evidence of monogram removal!!

The underside of the base is MARKED as follows:

International Silver Company is located in Meriden, Connecticut. According to my research, these piece was manufactured during the 1940s.

I figured that Courtship referred to a particular flatware service pattern that this piece was designed to match perfectly, however I looked up that pattern and it is not an exact match, but it does complement the pattern nicely. In fact, the decorative accents on this bowl would blend nicely with most simple sterling flatware designs including those that incorporate floral elements.

Perhaps the term "Courtship" refers more to the fact that this is a suitable wedding or engagement gift. I would have to do more research.

Measurements

This sterling silver piece is approximately 2 1/2" tall. The diameter at the level of the rim is 10 1/8" while the diameter of the base is 4 1/2".

Condition

The STERLING is in excellent condition for its age. T is NO significant damage to report . T are NO DINGS OR DENTS . T are some surface scratches as expected with age , but NO DEEP SCRATCHES . Some of these surface scratches will probably buff out with polishing.
