You are bidding on a Vintage Lenox Great Seal of The United States White House China plate . I believe this was a pattern plate used by Lenox. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or repairs . It is 10 1/2" in diameter. It is white in the center with The Great Seal of the United States in Gold. The rim is ivory with gold stars around it. On the back in the center it has the Lenox maker mark, "L" in a wreath, "Lenox" and "MADE IN U.S.A." The number "1830/P-362-A" is along the rim in Gold. It also has an old paper Lenox label which reads, "Command Performances in fine china - by Lenox" and in old typewriter style letters, "Federal Building". This label is a good indication of the age of this plate. It also comes with a paper display which tells the history of the plate. It states, "FOR THE FEDERAL BUILDING - WORLD'S FAIR - 1939-40", This service was used by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of England during their visit to America". "Created especially for the Federal Building at the World's Fair, it was later presented to the Roosevelt family for use in the White House". This plate is listed on page 163 of " Official White House China, 1789 to the present" , "Second Edition" by Margaret Brown Klapthor published in 1975.
