All Original and 100% AuthenticLongines Flagship, 2 Tone Dial, Red Centre Seconds Hand, Stainless Steel, 35mm, 1956 Very rarely found in such excellent condition, here we have one of the first gentleman’s Vintage Longines Flagship, with Two Tone Dial, Centre Red Seconds Hand in Stainless Steel. The Flagship was launched in 1956 and the model, as the name suggests, carried the highest caliber movement made by Longines at the time. Many Longines purists will argue, quite convincingly, that the 30LS was the finest manually wound mechanism of its era, by any maker!The Longines Flagship is one of the equal best Swiss manufacturer's model groups, like the Rolex Oyster and the Omega Seamaster, that qualifies as an icon in the eyes of the vintage watch collecting community. First offered in 1956 and still in production today, the Flagship range has continuously evolved but, exactly like the Oyster and the Seamaster, maintaining the spirit that drove the creation of its original incarnation. It was always a substantial, solid watch that combined elegance with very robust build quality. In many ways, these three model types were all competing for market share, catering for wealthy, active buyers who wanted rugged timepieces that were also craftsman finished to an impeccable standard and expensive status symbols. This model was one of the first to offer enhancements such as remaining waterproof with an antimagnetic and shock absorbing movement.In the classic 1950's style this all in-house manufactured watch has a highly attractive two tone dial in perfect condition with oversize bronze hour batons. The original exquisite stainless steel see through hands and red centre seconds hand. Signed 'Longines' and 'Flagship', even under the high magnification of a loupe, it is difficult to find any fault with this dial. There are almost no signs of aging therefore it would be safer must assume the original dial has been expertly refinished at some point. If so it is an extremely good job.The stainless steel watch case is also excellent condition with no damage or marks save for a few on screw down case back. The outside of the caseback carries the feint 'Flagship' engraving which is a little too difficult to show in a photograph. The watch case diameter is a 35mm not including the crown. This is a large size for a gents watch in the mid 1950's, when overly large watches were not so fashionable as they are today. Inside the case-back reads LONGINES FABSUISSE SWISSMADE and signed 'Flagship' with the numbers 104, 3, 694. The very clean and very high quality Calibre 30LS, 17 Jewels hand wind movement has recently been serviced and is running accurately and strongly. It winds nicely and sets just as it should. The watch movement is signed Longines with a serial number 10894055 and Calibre 30LS number, all correct, matching the case and indicating the watch to have been manufactured in 1956. Longines watches have a superb and rightful reputation for reliability and accuracy meaning this watch is perfectly usable today.The watch comes ready to wear with a new, high quality padded leather strap as shown and a new presentation box.I am offering this watch with a 3 months guarantee in good faith, so that you will have plenty of time to test and satisfy yourself that all is well with the watch.
