Vintage Mah Jong Set, Bamboo and Bone or Ivory Please look at all of the photographs. Let me make this absolutely clear, I know virtually nothing about Mah Jong, so bear with me while I call everything by the wrong name. This is the second set I've sold in as many weeks, and I have yet to learn any of this.I believe that the tiles in this set are either bone or ivory dovetailed to bamboo. I have included several photos attempting to show how they are put together and what they are made of. T are 4 lift out trays that each have 36 tiles in them, plus two more tiles in the last, or bottom tray. The bottom tray has a zillion or so little sticks with dots on them, which I imagine are for counting or betting? These appear to be also made of bone or ivory, as is the little cup thingie with the carved little disks. The last photos are of the booklet that came in the case. It's about 25 pages, and undated. Stylistically and paper quality, it looks like 20's or 30's, so I imagine the set could be that old. An "Official Standard Hands and Rules" card (not shown) from 1964-1965 was found in the case and is also included. Probably the last year this was used. I have been informed that the rules change every year. Thank goodness they don't do that with poker! The brass trimmed leather case measures 5-1/4 x 6 x 9 inches, and is in fair condition read more
