This mythological whimsy also generates excitement by its imaginative design. The bearded figure has a green crest with pointed ears, a long, scale-like neck design, a fur-like or string featd body, multi-colored wings (yellow and magenta), and an almost fish-like flowing tail that creates the handle for the piece and blossoms into the candle stand. As you can see in the pics, it is a very attractive piece in very nice condition for this age and style of pottery. It does have several tiny flaws, however, which tend to be overlooked so Iâe(tm)ll try to point them out, just so t are no mail-order disappointments..... T are some tiny chips on one edge of the blue âeoefloral petalâe below the candleholder. T is a glazed bubble at the base of the pedestal that has a tiny chip. T is a small amount of crazing (though it may simply be the way itâe(tm)s painted) near the belly of the beast. T is also a tiny rough spot on the edge of one his wings, which is just a tiny dimpled bubble from the glazing. In my experience, this is all pretty standard stuff for Majolica, whether itâe(tm)s a simple plate or an elaborate creation such as this. The base is marked âeoe787 made in Italyâe and has a circle with an inverted âeoeVâe. Substantial in size, it measures almost seven inches tall, and will weigh about three pounds when safely packaged!
