Vintage Maltine Co.Advertising Celluloid Bookmark early 1900s In near mint condition is this celluloid bookmark measuring 3 ½" by 1 ½". The printing is bold and clear on both sides. The Maltine Company sold herbal products including Maltine with Coca Wine (Cocaine). All of their products including that one are listed on the back side. The bookmark was printed by the Whitehead & Hoag Company, Newark New Jersey. A very cool item of vintage Americana. This is NOT a reproduction. A little history fyi: This coca wine was made by the Maltine Manufacturing Company (New York). The dosage indicated on the back of the bottle reads: "A wine glass full with, or immediately after, meals. Children in proportion." Malt extract was taken for its health-promoting effects and alcohol was considered by many to have medicinal effects. It's not surprising to see the 'virtues' of these three "medicines" combined into a single product.
