At auction here is a vintage mantle clock made by the Derby Silver Company, Derby, Connecticut - 20th century. The clock body is gilt bronze with a cherub on top (see photos). The clock face has roman numerals on brass with an enameled center made up of red, blue and white colors . The movement is Japy Freres "G DE MED. D'HONNEUR" French time and strike on gong. This is a nice size clock measuring 16 1/2" tall x 7 1/2" wide x 4 1/4" deep. The clock face has a hinged convex glass window 4 3/8" in diameter and in the back is another cover with frosted glass measuring 4 3/8" in diameter. There are two wind up posts in the clock face, however I do not have a key so I am not sure if it works. I do know that when the hands are moved to the top and bottom of the hour a beautiful tone is omitted by way of a mechanical hammer and large inner spring, one tone for the bottom of the hour and multiple tone strikes for top of the hour. There are many ornate figures around the face of the clock and along each side are human faces surrounded by leaves and ribbons. The clock stands on four intrigue swirl feet with multiple patterns. Please see the photos for a better look at the patterns and images. The clock weighs 10.4 pounds attest to the heavy gauge and depth of the piece. I have left the clock's patina as is since you will want to have it professionally
