Vintage Studio Pottery Vase Description and Item Information Up for sale is this vintage studio art pottery vase by the listed California artist, Margo Elberg. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This pot has incised sgraffito-carved decoration. The exterior is glazed dark brown, and the interior has a contrasting tan glaze. The pot has a small opening, with a bulbous body. The reddish clay body is visible beneath. This item stands approximately 5 3/4 inches tall; it has a maximum width of about 4 3/8 inches. Unpacked, it weighs about 1 pound 4.7 ounces. This would be a fine addition to a collection of vintage American studio ceramics. Identification This pot is signed beneath, "Margo." It is by the San Francisco Bay area potter, Margo Elberg. Elberg is listed in the Vasefinder online museum. Per Vasefinder, Margo Elberg exhibited at the Pacific Coast Ceramic Exhibition and Sale, at the Association of San Francisco Potters, and at the Nationals in 1946 and 1949. Per additional online research, Elberg was born in 1918. Elberg attended the San Francisco Art Institute, Mills College, and the College of Marin. She and her husband, Harold, owned Marrell Studios which produced art metal objects, many of which were sold at Gump's. Elberg was an award-winning artist (including first place at the 1949 California State Fair); she exhibited alongside such distinguished artists as Edwin Cadogan, Antonio Prieto, Marguerite Wildenhain, Helen Peeke, Hal Riegger, Edith Heath, Jade Snow Wong, and Sasha Makovkin. She was a multi-faceted artist and craftswoman; aside from pottery, she also produced jewelry, mosaics, art metal, and wooden boxes. Her work was shown in publications such as Sunset Magazine, House and Garden, House Beautiful, and Craft Horizons. Elberg was a resident of Marin County, California. She recently passed away. Condition The vase looks very good overall, with light wear, and no chips or cracks. Minor excess clay was ground from the base, as made. Variations in glazing, including pinprick glaze bubbles, are as made. Please review the photos, and ask any necessary questions prior to bidding or buying. Sales Tax Before merchandise is shipped to a California address (or picked up or delivered within California), a sales tax of 8% will be collected, unless the buyer provides a valid California resale certificate form by mail (or in person, in the case of pick up or delivery). The resale certificate must be properly filled out in accordance with California Board of Equalization regulations. No exceptions. 2. Payments The buyer must prepay before merchandise is released. Paypal payments over $250 will only be accepted if delivery is to an address with a confirmed status. A signature will be required for delivery if the total Paypal payment for merchandise inside the parcel is greater than $250. Contact the seller in advance of bidding or buying to find out about accepted payment methods for local pick-ups or deliveries. Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made. 3. Shipping and Handling Good packaging is included; double-boxing is not included. Framed art will not be shipped unframed. The seller typically ships on Mondays and Thursdays, unless a holiday or special circumstance precludes it. If payment is via Paypal, the merchandise will be shipped on the seller's next shipping day after payment clears. The seller is not responsible for the transit time once the merchandise has been accepted by the shipping carrier. Economy shipping within the U.S. includes delivery to a physical address via an economy shipping method of the seller's choice. At the discretion of the seller, a faster shipping method may be utilized at no additional cost to the buyer.
